St. Vincent made quite the revelation during the 67th Annual Grammy Awards this past Sunday, Feb. 3.
During the non-televised portion of the awards ceremony, St. Vincent – a Dallas native whose real name is Anne Clark – won the awards for Best Alternative Music Album for her seventh album, All Born Screaming, as well as Best Alternative Music Performance for “Flea,” and Best Rock Song for “Broken Man.” During her acceptance speech for Best Rock Song, Clark revealed that she is married and that she and her wife are parents.
Clark said winning the award was “a real delight” and thanked her “beautiful family, my beautiful wife, Leah, and our beautiful daughter.” She continued, thanking her collaborators on the album, as well as “the fans and all the people just fuckin’ doing this shit.”
Later that evening, Clark spoke with reporters (per The Hollywood Reporter), saying that “most people are” unaware of the details of her personal life, and that she purposely kept her marriage and parenthood “under wraps.”

Clark did, however, clarify that she has not been keeping her child’s secret for years. “The child is young, just to be clear, the child is young,” she said.
Though this is the first time she’s talked about being married and having a child, this isn’t the first time she’s talked about being queer. Back in June, Clark identified as queer when speaking about All Born Screaming to Billboard. “I’m queer, I’m living in multitudes, but this record in particular is not about persona or deconstruction.”
The album itself contains the song “Sweetest Fruit,” which has been hailed as a love letter to the LGBTQ+ community, as well as a tribute to the late DJ and producer SOPHIE and late queer political cartoonist Daniel Sotomayor.
During the televised portion of the Grammys, several LGBTQ+ artists won awards, including Doechii for Best Rap Album for her Alligator Bites Never Heal mixtape, Chappell Roan for Best New Artist, and Lady Gaga for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her Bruno Mars collaboration, “Die With a Smile.” Before the show began, Clark expressed pride for the several LGBTQ+ nominees.
“There have always been queer people in the history of the world and especially in music, and so I think there’s a bunch of queer people celebrated this year especially,” she said. “And that’s great, of course it’s great. Empathy and humanity, let’s go.”
