Mary Anne Hobbs, The Green Elephant, Friday, November 20
It's Monday afternoon, friends. Get out your glow sticks!
BBC 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs, who spun at The Green Elephant Friday night, has led the life you wish you had the balls to live: she ran off to London with a hard rock band as a teen; at 21, inspired by Metallica, she moved across the Atlantic to Hollywood to be a rock journalist.
Oh, and she "rides any kind" of motorcycle.
What. A. Bad. Ass.
Justin Nozuka, The Loft, Saturday, November 21
I've never listened to Justin Nozuka's music, but MTV says it "recalls" Nick Drake and Lauryn Hill.
Oh, and his aunt is Kyra Sedgwick, which by powers of deduction leads me to conclude his uncle is the badass Kevin Bacon, who saved the teenagers of Beaumont, Texas, from living without 80s dance moves.
Justin's got a lot to live up to.
Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa, Stubbs in Austin, Thursday, November 19
The Zappa allegedly named after his mother's oddly shaped toe swung through Texas over the weekend, playing Austin, Dallas and Houston. I couldn't find video of D.Z.'s Dallas appearance at the House of Blues, but this clip of Zappa and Eric Johnson's guitar lovefest at Stubbs is...
You guessed it: badass!
