It was just one month ago that Dallas Police Officer Jeffrey Thorn was arrested for an alleged sexual assault not far from DPD HQ in the Cedars. Today, the department sends word that yet another officer is behind bars: Isac De La Rosa, a 3-year veteran assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division, turned himself in today hours after a Dallas County grand jury indicted the officer for Promotion of Child Pornography, which is a second-degree felony.
According to a statement just released by department spokesman Lt. Andy Harvey, the DPD's Internet Crimes Against Children Squad has been investigating De La Rosa, who'd been suspected of "possessing sexually explicit photographs and making them electronically available to others," for a little more than a month. He was put on administrative leave June 15, and following the indictment turned himself in "without incident" at the Jack Evans Headquarters Building about five hours ago. Bond has not yet been set.
I asked Harvey what led to the investigation of De La Rosa. He responded via e-mail: "Internet Crimes Against Children was conducting one of their proactive investigations that led them to one of our officers. A full investigation ensued, determined there was enough to proceed with pressing charges."
