News Photographer Wins Military Reporters Award for "Gripping" Work

Lara Solt, a Dallas Morning News staff photographer, just won an online-photography award from the Military Reporters & Editors Association for a collection of images that chronicled a U.S. Marine’s recovery after a bridge exploded beneath him in Iraq. Corporal Eric Morante lost a leg, underwent extensive surgeries and endured a painstaking recovery in hospitals in Germany, Maryland and Texas, and Solt was there to record it all with her lens. Says a contest judge: "The story used video and photo slideshows to give us an intimate look at this man’s life. The photos were gripping." Check out the photos here. --Megan Feldman
