This month, there was a lot of talk about all the big new restaurant openings; too many to keep count, in fact.

There's always a focus on the next big thing, but for now, there is much to look forward to in the Dallas dining scene. Especially since closures are as certain as ever these days.

In July, some favorites relocated, Duro Hospitality has some fun new food and there's a new po'boy in town.

Norman's Japanese Grill

4002 Oak Lawn Ave.
After gathering a slew of recognition from Michelin this past year, Duro Hospitality is having fun with its latest concept that celebrates a fusion of Western and Japanese cultures — Norman's Japanese Grill in the former space of Homewood. The space is decked out in heavy woods, including wood paneling and exposed beams embellished with Asian flair. The menu is a mix of small plates, hand rolls, noodles, crudo and charcoal robata skewers. There's also edamame hummus and Korean fried chicken. Make your ressies, this spot is booked.

The PoBoy Shop

8421 Westchester Dr.
The sister-spot of Evan's meat market is from a Lafayette native and based on early reivews, it just might be Dallas' new reigning sandwich champ. The bread is from Leidenheimer bakery in New Orleans and the meats are prepared in-house. Seating is sparse and the line can get long, but everything moves fast.

The Sicilian Butcher

5225 Belt Line Road
Chef Tomaso Maggiore immigrated here over 20 years ago in pursuit of the American dream. He started in the kitchen with his nonna and used that foundation to open over 50 restaurants and earn a James Beard Award. His son, chef Joey Maggiore, started The Sicilian Butcher in Scottsdale in 2017 to honor his father's legacy and spread Sicilian cuisine. It's known for 5-foot-long charcuterie boards and a BYO pasta section of the menu. The first location opened in Fort Worth and now the second will open in Dallas on Thursday, Aug. 7.

Palmieri Cafe

2024 W. 15th St., Plano
Corrado Palmieri opened his eponymous cafe in 2016 and has prided himself in his entirely scratch-made menu that includes house-roasted coffee beans and treats from his home province in Southern Italy. First came his stall at the Dallas Farmers Market; second was a full brick-and-mortar in Bishop Arts, and now he's coming to the suburbs to fill the shell of a former Starbucks. Palmieri Cafe in Plano was slated to open this month, but could be any day in the coming weeks.

Pax & Beneficia

2900 Canton St.
Pax & Beneficia has loomed around Dallas proper for years now, dipping a toe in when they opened a location near the American Airlines Center, and now again with the opening of their new location in Deep Ellum. It's in the former LTH Coffee space.

NADC Burger

2908 McKinney Ave.
Not a Damn Chance. That's what it stands for. The wagyu cheeseburger concept has enjoyed some viral fame, and we're hoping it goes viral in our mouths. They have a spot in Fort Worth, and is finally making the hop to Dallas 2908 McKinney Avenue on Friday, Aug. 15. It's where The Playground used to be, next to Standard Pour.

Más Chingón Cantina

312 W Davis St.
Más Chingón Cantina is a brand new sports bar in Bishop Arts that celebrates lively energy and Latin cuisine. The former Blue Cenote space has big-screen TVs, live bands every week, and a cantina-meets-nightlife vibe. They have a full menu during the day, but starting at 10 p.m., they remove the chairs, and you can order bottle service and dance the night away with their strong drinks.

Texano Cocina

5622 Lemmon Ave.
This building in the strip off of Lemmon has famously served Tex-Mex for over six decades, starting with El Fenix, which closed in 2020 after 60 years. Texano Cocina is the latest tenant that is continuing the legacy set by its predecessors. This new concept is considered a rebrand of the previous: Eddie's Cocina & Cantina.

Cris and John is nothing new to Dallas, but their new location in Addison is.

POT Baked Potato Bar

1516 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
POT Baked Potato Bar is another restaurant reopening, but just 10 minutes from its original location. Dallas' best baked potatoes live on, this time near another South Dallas favorite, Ruthie's Cafe.

Taqueria El Arquito

3400 Commerce St.
The funky former Thunderbird Pies space is now occupied by Taqueria El Arquito. The same iconic space, but now with a side of rice and beans and the perfect neighbor, Double D's.

Hendy's on Henderson

2401 N Henderson Ave.
Five months after beloved pizza spot, Sfuzzi's closed, another Knox/Henderson legend opens. Hendy's on Henderson is from the same minds behind Double D's, High Fives and Tiny Victories. It gives grandma vibes in the best way, and the bookshelf features many conversation pieces, like vintage Playboy magazines.
