Yeah, well–The Dallas Morning News and, like, 149 other daily newspapers. It’s part of “a strategic partnership with more than 150 daily U.S. newspapers to deliver search, graphical and classified advertising to consumers in the communities where they live and work,” says the press release Belo issued today. Sounds like Yahoo!’s attempt to go after Monster.com, CareerBuilder.com and every other job-search site out there. After that comes Craigslist, and it sounds like they’re taking on Google News; anything’s better than what Yahoo! throws up there now as a news site. And that’s just for starters.
Way down in the release, it says Belo was a founder of this new advertorial-search engine “consortium,” along with MediaNews Group and Hearst Corporation, and the “consortium continues to recruit other newspapers to join.” Or else? No, seriously. We’re not booing. We’re shouting, “Yahoo!” –Robert Wilonsky
