Wanda Jackson
Thursday, September 27, at Granada Theater, $24-$49
The last time the incomparable Wanda Jackson came to town, she was backed by the King Bucks at the Kessler Theater. On air on 1310-AM The Ticket a few days later, King Bucks’ Danny Balis explained that the show was incredible despite minimal rehearsals with Jackson and her showing up minutes before the band was to take the stage.

Sigur Ros played Dallas for the first time, back in 2003,
California’s The Album Leaf served as the opening act. I remember being
so impressed with their moody, heavy instrumental music
that I bought their first album, One Day I’ll Be On Time. Nearly 10 years later, they’re still the opening act, this time for instrumental producer Tycho.

have to admit: when Trees first reopened a few years ago, I was a bit
disappointed by the hard rock bands being booked. However, in the last
few months I’ve seen some of the most exciting shows come to the venue:
Index Festival, The Album Leaf and Sharon Van Etten, just to name a few.
It’s quickly climbing its way back to being one of the best places to
see a show.

is shaping up to be one of the best shows of autumn. Sharon Van Etten headlines with Seattle’s Damien Jurado in the support slot. He’s had a
long career as one of America’s most under appreciated songwriters.

Delta
Spirit is so hot right now. They’ve got that single “California,” which you can’t turn on KXT without hearing, and they’re playing in House of Blues’ big room. Should be a good show.
Psychedelic Furs
Sunday, November 4, at Granada Theater, $30
Classic new wave act Psychedelic Furs still put on a good show, some 30 years after their prime.
Japandroids
Monday, November 5, at Trees, $15/$18
Canadian
rock duo Japandroids have been the recipients of much buzz since the
release of their 2012 album Celebration Rock a few months back. The
record was met with high critical acclaim, and now the subsequent tour
will bring them to Trees on Monday, November 5.
John Legend
Sunday, November 11, at Verizon Theatre, $40.50-$70.50
My guess is Legend’s well-received album Wake Up!,
a collaboration between him and The Roots, might have something to do
with his current buzz. The R&B singer’s got a new record coming out this year, called Love In The Future. Let the post-apocalyptic jokes begin.
