Since Ra Ra Riot popped up on the radar in 2006, they’ve entertained crowds large and small with their poppy, instrumental sets. The group’s third effort, Beta Love, just dropped last month, but because cellist Alexandra Lawn recently announced her departure from the band, fans have yet to see how the group’s sound will be altered. See their new material with pop group Pacific Air, formerly known as KO KO.

Fort Worth acoustic folk singer-songwriter Jody Jones–a man, not a woman–plays compelling, heartfelt sets each Monday at The Grotto. Sometimes soft and subtle, sometimes booming and powerful, Jones gives you the entire spectrum. The folk musician and proficient guitarist was recently nominated for the 2012 Fort Worth Weekly Awards for Best Americana/Roots Rock. That’s just another reason to check him out.
Hard Drinking Housewives, Treelines, Daniel Markham

Admittedly, I haven’t heard much from the Hard Drinking Housewives, but the band apparently features musicians from Particular People, Rude Rachel, Sideboob Tsunami Babes, Informant, Oh Lewis and Taco Kitty. All I know is that if Hard Drinking Housewives are headlining a show with female vocalist Amanda Newton’s dreamy, sometimes Billie Holiday-esque band Treelines, and psych-rock singer-songwriter Daniel Markham, it’s gonna be a good one. Especially since it’s free-ninety-nine.
John Denver’s Rocky Mountain High Celebration

This one’s for the fans. This show will let you re-experience all of your favorite John Denver songs as you watch vintage video of him, backed by a live performance from former members of his band, as well as an accompanying string section.
Old 97’s, Salim Nourallah, Rhett Miller
Thursday, February 21, at Granada Theater, $34
Dallas’ own will blaze a trail through their vast catalog this week at Granada. Solo sets from alt-country singer-songwriter Salim Nourallah and Old 97’s frontman Rhett Miller will get the crowd started, where there are sure to be dozens of familiar Dallas faces.
