Several hours ago (what day is it?), a couple of Dallas Observer staffers were wearing meat helmets. With real salted, cured meats.
The reason was very, very simple: the 24 Hour Video Race happened. Which, naturally, means gorilla suits, massive foil balls and a helmet made of roast beef and Virginia ham.
If you’re unfamiliar with what the hell we’re talking about, the race to make a movie in 24 hours has a few caveats: a certain theme, prop, location and line of dialogue must be included . In this year’s case, the prompts were “A Day to Remember,” a ball, a garden and “We can do that tomorrow” — respectively. In 24 hours, filmmakers must then write, direct, edit, not die, and turn in a completed video that’s under five minutes.
So, we, as the Mixmaster, entered Jacob’s Ladder made ourselves a little film for the race. You can see after the jump — it’s called “We Forgot The Dry Cleaning” (we’ll let the weirdness speak for itself).
Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?
We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
If you’re itching to see the movie on the big Tinseltown screen, our film will run Wednesday, May 25 at 8:45 p.m. at the Angelika Film Centre on Mockingbird, along with other contenders in our category (screening of all completed videos begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday). We’re pretty excited. Make the jump to see the completed film, and if you’re feeling saucy — join us at the screening. Also, we totally encourage other filmmakers to post links to your completed projects (we threw ours on YouTube) in the comments below — we could post yours on the Mixmaster in the next few days!
