One of my first jobs was at small press, the hobby of a lawyer who could find no other outlet for his ham-handed legal thrillers. The series' main character was a fantasy version of the author who fought his way, literally and figuratively, to victory while fending off advances from would-be mistresses. From the description of lawyer-turned-novelist Robert Dugoni's character David Sloane, "the lawyer who does not lose," I'm guessing he has a similar creative approach. In Bodily Harm, Sloane has to exonerate an innocent pediatrician while investigating a toy company that may have caused the death for which the doctor is blamed. Dugoni signs copies 7 p.m. Wednesday at Legacy Books, 7300 Dallas Parkway in Plano. Visit robertdugoni.com.
