While we are on JWP, lets talk about Dawayne Carraway, why in the hell DO he think he can sue the city. They did not just show up at his house that fool called the police to come. If he can sue the City then everybody that has had a Domestic problem should sue them too. Mrs Carraway know that NUT is out of control, probay being hitting her for a long time , just look at her face DUH!!!. And he is probally a bully. WE DON'T WANT HIM IN OFFICE , NO MORE THAN WE WANT JWP. I DON'T CARE IF NO ONE LIKES WHAT I SAY. THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE. and you know this to maybe be true.

Grr. One of the only places I crossed paths with JWP was at that police station while he was marching. My dad had a heart attack and was at Doctors Hospital but I had to wait for JWP's antics to see my dad. He is and was a hateful man. I vowed that my next house would never be in Dallas County, and 13 years ago I made that come true. Never looked back.

Typical liberal whining. Always ranting and raving and screaming about government "services." when only a handful of creeps, leeches, parasites and people who refuse to work use them. While the rest of the taxpayers get up every morning and go to work to support your diseased ilk.

Unfortunately, it sounded like an insult. Whether it was racist or not, it was most certainly intended to be insulting - which shows the speaker's ignorance. The word "mullah" under other circumstances would be a complement.
Regardless of insults or perceived insults hurled by speakers at a commissioners' court meeting, the commissioners themselves should hold themselves to a higher standard of conduct and not demean themselves or the court by responding in kind. Commissioner Price' behavior was inappropriate and he should not have allowed himself to be goaded into a verbal tirade and name calling. It sounded like Price was engaging in "Mommy, he started it!" - which most of us gave up around the third grade.

Excuse me? Do you even know what the National Socialists are?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Socialism
Obama is accused of being a SOCIALIST. Unfortunately, Obama is a centrist, not a liberal, progressive, or a socialist. But, whatever he is, he's certainly far better than McCain, Palin, or any other ultra-greedy, reactionary Repugnant you can name.

Here's the sad part: Years ago, during the time Glen Maxey was serving as the first openly gay state rep, we went down to Austin for a gay rights march and lobbying day. During this particular trip, a proclamation was read on the floor of the representatives' chamber. Most of the state reps (all of the Republicans and not a few of the Democrats) left chamber because they didn't want to be present when it was read. John Wiley Price traveled to Austin and was with us in the gallery for the reading of the proclamation. John Wiley Price was the only local elected official who traveled to Austin to stand with us for this reading. (I think this was the same trip in which we got caught in an elevator in the capital between floors and Deborah Dannenberg pulled the doors open and jumped to the floor below to rescue us).
I'll always have a warm spot for John Wiley Price, but the expiration date on that affection has passed long ago and it is time to vote Mr. Price out of office.
-
Mr. Scott 03/10/2011 8:32:00 AM
How about calling him John, his name? A lot of the verbal warfare would not exist if everyone address one another by their name. His mother did not name him Mullah.

Jd 03/03/2011 2:54:00 PM
The point is not that is was racial, it was disrespectful to be called other than what his name is. They were in a formal setting, so to address anyone by anything else, is to be disrectful. Not to mention, he asked the gentleman to call him by his name, and was called Mullah 6 times. I'm not sure what you expect of a man in that position. Should he have just grinned and bear it? Why should he have been held accountable for his actions, but not the speaker. Now to what you believe to be a racial slur. I personally believe that some whites substitute words like "Mullah" for the word "nigger". Then when you are called on it, then its, "what, i didn't say they n-word". You are very simple-minded to assume that because you do not say a word, that others can't interpret what you mean. I know that when you want to be respectful or sensitive to someone you make sure to not use words that Might offend that person. So kill the bullshit about what you didn't say, it is always what you said and how you said it.
-
Keep The Devil That You know 03/02/2011 8:30:00 PM
No where in the dictionary defines this as a racial slur. Come to think about it after reading the last post, JWP might be the most astonishing actor in Dallas politics. He is playing to his captive audience. This might not be his character at all but a role he plays to his constituents who enjoy this type of behavior while he is free to deal in nefarious deeds. They don't care if he doesn't accomplish anything for his area, they are being entertained. And the Repub can't say anything because they put Perry back in office.

I had never heard that the word mullah was any type of racial slur before this incident, and take the claims that it is with a large grain of salt. I always thought it was akin to "high muckity muck" or "grand poobah." I guess to avoid new words being branded as racial slurs we should be careful not to use language that can be misconstrued. Let's just call him a paranoid megalomaniacal jerk and leave it at that.
-
Foe 03/02/2011 2:21:00 AM
The people in JWP's precint fully support him. They will continue voting for him, They see him as their man downtown who is standing up to angry caucasians who are bitter about losing power. The man use the Mullah word because he couldn't use the N word. Black people are not as stupid as you think.
-
JokerAce 03/02/2011 2:05:00 AM
Sorry Jim, you are wrong. John Wiley Price is a IS a democrat-he uses his power over his base to convince them that everyone else is out to get them, and then he does it for himself. Sorry, that is how the whole democratic party in Dallas runs things from what I can see: build a base (based on race of course) and then scare them into not voting any other way. Once you have that base use it to get rich or powerful or both. Sometimes they get caught, sometimes they don't. I have come to the conclusion that the only solution is to move a little north. The north Dallas counties may not be perfect but compared to Dallas they are pretty dog-gone good.
-
Voice of Reason 03/01/2011 11:04:00 PM
Jim:
Although I'll admit you have been a long time critic of JWP (although, come to think about it- is there anyone in power whom you haven't been critical of? It's your shtick!!), I guess what prompted this article is that you think he's finally become such a liability for you and the Democrats that you fear the voters of Dallas County will return to their senses and start voting the occasional Republican in office again. Oh, the horrors!
The biggest insult you could come up with is to say he's really a Republican? Come on, now. surely you can do better than that!
Meanwhile, as a resident of a neighboring county that is looking better and better by comparison, I should probably be happy by the seeming Dallas death-wish. BUT, I'm a big believer in regionalism, and it will hurt us all to see Dallas keep it's downward spiral.
So, Dallas: buck it up! How about voting for competency, regardless which tribe they belong to.

For those of you that support John Wiley Price, what is he "really" doing for you? If you go to the areas of Dallas in which he represents, streets are in dis-repair. City services are not on par with those of central/north Dallas. Public schools in those areas lag behind the same public schools equivalents in central/north Dallas. Crime is several percentages higher in his area than it is in the rest of Dallas. Businesses don't want to locate in his areas and since there is no business growth in his areas, residents have to travel to work thus spending more of their monies in other areas of Dallas, thus not supporting their area's economic viability and growth.
This seems to be the growing legacy of John Wiley Price politics. Someone needs to remind him that this is 2011, not 1851. Someone needs to pull him into the 21st century instead of letting his mind toil in the 19th and 20th centuries as far as his ways of thinking. Yes, there are still inequalities when it comes to minorities in the business/education/social world. However, instead of fighting to bring more growth and opportunity to his area, it is about doing just enough to get a big enough following to keep you in elected office (sort of like Alderman Fred C. Davis from "Good Times" fame). The civil rights fights from the 1960s brought minorities all long way but fights like what John Wiley Price fight do a lot to set those gains back. He (JWP) should be concentrating on educating the youth in his area in order for them to be able to keep up and compete with their counterparts from other areas of the metroplex as well as their counterparts from other parts of the US. JWP is handicapping his area and the peoples of his represented areas with his style of politics. His style is not fair to the many good, hardworking people he is suppose to represent.

This happens with all politicians both Ds and Rs. They get into office and they learn how to work the system to help themselves and there cronies. Do you hear me now 02/28/2011 7:41:00 PM
I still don't get it. 63,000 jobs for South Dallas equals slave jobs??? Well I know who will take those jobs while the people who live over there are all hanging out, smoking, dealing/doing drugs, sweeping side walks, etc., You can watch all your brown brothers take all of those jobs and drive off in their shiny new trucks to their shiny new house while you still live in the most impovished part of the City where all these new jobs are, because if they are manager, they hire their own. Then they will start buying up all those cheap lots, building their version of a ranch house with their fences and guess where you will be? Guess John Wiley Price will be?

People in Dallas city and county government that think and act like John Wiley Price is the reason why Dallas always lag behind other big cities around the US as far as progressing forward. Lining their own pockets is more important than doing the right things to progress Dallas forward and bring in jobs/economic opportunities. I have lived in Dallas for over 10 years and have seen very little progress in the area. I have seen industries (with their jobs) shift more towards the Fort Worth side of the metroplex due to the shennanigans of the Dallas City Council. We (black, white, brown, yellow, red) are all in the same boat and it is sinking fast due to the "John Wiley Price" style of politics. Lets progress, not regress together for the good of Dallas.
-
02/28/2011 5:44:00 PM
Let's hope some of the voters in the area pay attention and get all the facts.
-
Rdevans50 02/28/2011 4:18:00 PM
you know "Mullah" is not a racist term. It is a title used in Afghanistan. And what if a white commissioner said to the assembled masses, "you are all black, go to Hell"? Would he be sitting back laughing at the coverage now or would he be making the apologies that would be forced on him by the NAACP, Black Ministers and Politicians. A white commissioner could NEVER get by with such utter disregard for the voters.
-
wtf?! 02/28/2011 4:10:00 PM

How can you stand up for someone with the whole "live together as one"shtick when JWP's ignorance towards equality pisses all over it? He openly uses racism out of context and causes more division.

Say what!!! 02/27/2011 7:52:00 PM
Is this one of those Junteenth moments??
With all of the misinformation, gossip, useless information , and downright wrong information that flows through the black grapevine, you would think some of the above facts about Price would taint him. This mode of communication probably was very useful during the slavery times but I wonder why the freedom part didn't reach Texas until two years later. I mean slaves were being freed all around Texas, you know due to that certain war that was going on, why wouldn't this information seep into Texas?? Why, they didn't want to know. They wanted to know who was going to take care of them if they were let go. Master has always taken care of us. If you don't talk about it, it doesn't exist. Don't say nothing, now, don't even bring it up. I don't know nothing about that, I only know what I'm told. As now, his people don't want to know anything different than what they are told.

John Wiley Price is a racist as evidenced by his comments. If the commissioner had been a white or hispanic saying that to a black speaker we would still have the NAACP and everyone else running all over Dallas and on the National news every night. But no, Mr. Price can say whatever he feels because even his own constituents are terrified of him.
He is neither Democrat or Republican. He is, however, an open racist with a self serving agenda.

Mr. Schutze, you are taking things out of context and making it sound like you are on the side

And besides, you are using the Dallas Observer, we All know that they print only the things that cause division among people. Mr. Wiley has a right to speak his opinion on the things that he believe in whether it offends you or not. We must learn to live together as One, for We Are One...One in God.

I liked Price alot better when he was the clerk for the court that set you bond when you got busted. If you were a pimp and sent a working girl by to see him, and maybe a little coke, he would see to it that thay would be booked/ bailed out as a first offence---75$ back then. She can make that back tonight. He has always looked out for himself (like most politicians) and could cair less abought the poor blacks in his district. Somebody should look at how he did things as a court clerk. It's all in the recordes.

The National Socialist Party (formerly democrats) are too scared to call down johnnyboy. The blacks in Dallas County are their main voting block. Without the black vote the National Socialists would never win another election, and they know it. So, letting johnny run his mouth is the bribe the National Socialist Party pays for their dominance in Dallas County. It might be of note that, before FDR, the blacks voted solid Republican. After all, Abe Lincoln, a Republican set them free. When FDR became President, he started the "Entitlements", to bribe the black vote, and they have voted National Socialist ever since. The National Socialists, on the Federal level, could care less about blacks, they just want their votes to retain Political power. If blacks remain blind to this truth, it is because they chose too.

@ Jon42096 - Attitudes like yours is the biggest problem with politics. Instead of one pointing fingers at the other, why don't you use your brain and say something that both parties can learn from. Oh, because you cant!
Both parties have big problems and need to work together to solve them, not point fingers like preschool children.
-
Dgg36 02/26/2011 3:52:00 PM
I appreciate the reply. I should've dug deeper. However, I'm still not convinced by either side on this one point. I need to see the analysis and statistics upon which the "specific plan" Sherbert has vs the allegation JWP makes. There seems to be something questionable about not using allocated funds at a critical time when demographics have not only changed greatly but population has also increased greatly. There is something contradictory about not using the money when it is most needed. But I could be wrong - need to see the facts. Think I'll do some digging.

Jon42096 02/26/2011 3:19:00 PM
They have no moral center. They sell out their own community. They want money. Their big trick is to carry some of the money around to the preachers. Even that sad old routine barely works any more.
Again, that sounds like every democrat. Why do you insist on calling this guy a closet republican then turn around and provide proof, which is stated above, that he's a democrat.
Democrats have no moral center, they sell out their own communities and then some. They want money. Not money they earned from hard work but money they can steal from those who already have it, a la increasing taxes to pay for their political bribes to the welfare slaves.

Thank You Jim,
When I ran for Dallas Co. Commissioner (Precinct 4) last November, it was one of primary goals to shut down the Southside mafia. Unfortunately, when your a Libertrian, and you get outspent $600,000 to 0, you lose.
But, when you're not a bought & paid for scribe, (like all at the DMN), this is what you report. I once thought Comm. Garcia would make a difference. Watching her run for cover in a situation where I would be nose to nose with JWP, saying 'What,... exactly is your problem?', suggests I should have spent more money!
Keep doing what you do,

I think it is time for the minority/majority to wake up and see things as they are and not what they want it to be. There is a lot of things that is wrong in our clergy sene. When was the last time you could call one of them. They are busy doing what?

Tired of the Mafia 02/26/2011 4:21:00 AM
So much truth to this article. There is no denying that Jim is on his game and Price cant talk because he is to busy. JWP and his cronies (Nealy, Johnson, West, and Pippins-Poole the new thief of votes) are criminals that should be in jail. My question is, why are the county, state, and federal officials afraid of this guy. It has been said that he is a part of the Mafia. Is that true? Somebody help me understand please. This crap has got to stop for the betterment of all of Dallas.
Is there any hope for Change? What can we do as citizens to force change and regain some credibility in our democracy and political process without these crooks, criminals and shakedown con artists and extortionists?

OK, some good points here. But can you explain what JWP meant in an news clip where he said Sherbert had $2mil unused HAVA funds from the past decade when the Dallas County demographics changed the most (became more nonwhite)? Any truth to that, because if so that would be an serious infraction as head of the county elections department.

"I am going to tell you the nickname that most African-Americans have for a job. It's called a slave."
That explains a lot.
A. Lot.
Just ..... wow.

I heard JWP speak once, and he kept talking about hhis "prize possession" he displays proudly in his home. It's a slave collar. The man is obsessed with hatred, which is a form of mental illness. One thing few people know about him is that he was once married to a white woman, and he has a biracial son. Unfortunately, he leads a lot of people down his path of misguided obsession. He is not good for Dallas or its people.

Rickyrayrobertson,
Are you in JWPs pockets or something? This publication is mostly op-eds and never made itself out to be first tier public service media outlet like DMN. So if it's not true then you dont need to be concerned...and if it IS true then what stake do you have in JWPs success/failuer??
Even the Huffpost (not my favorite either) reports some good reliable news every now and then....

I'm a black man myself who grew up and lived in Dallas up until I left for college. I can tell you first hand that John Wiley Price remains in office because alot of bitter black people keep voting for him because they like to see him "STICK IT TO WHITEY" in such a loud and obnoxious manner that both entertains and pacifies the disgruntled uneducated and under employed black electorate....when the white business developers get smart enough to support OTHER influential leaders well liked in the black community and who have publically clashed with JWP (and there are several) then they will be successful...until then, JWP is going to be his arrogant and obnoxious self until he gets ready to retire...or die!

Doesn't matter if he is Republican or Democrat, he is the face of the Black Man willing to stand up to the White Man. As long as he does that he will be rewarded by having his nice, cush job on Commissioners Court. It is not about politics or jobs, all about the cahungas. Right, wrong or indiffernt the rats will vote for the Pied Piper.
