Until her “O.G. Bitch” joint last year, Esthero was best known for her appearances on other people’s songs, including some by Ian Pooley (“Balmes [A Better Life]”) and Black Eyed Peas (“Weekends”). We R in Need of a Musical Revolution, a 30-minute teaser for an album scheduled for release this year, marks her move to center stage; it’s classic L.A. pop, from the breezy “Everyday Is a Holiday (With You)” to the cool jazz of “This Lullaby.” The best of the six cuts is the title track, on which Esthero unleashes the same feistiness that made “O.G. Bitch” a major club hit. “I’m sick and tired of the shit on the radio,” she complains. “With MTV, they only play the same thing/Everywhere I go, I see Ashanti in the video/I want something more.”
