When one of your parents owns one of the most legendary venues in the world, breaks aren’t hard to come by. Hell, how do you think Pauly “Comedy Store” Shore even got a career? But rich genealogy doesn’t have to be a burden–just ask Tall Paul. Because his father owned British superclub Turnmills, he didn’t have much trouble gaining access to the DJ booth, starting his career at only 16 years old, but his ascension to globetrotter status can only be attributed to his now-legendary skills. After landing a residency at renowned gay nightclub Trade, the word of his epic, hard-edged house sets spread, and he soon grabbed regular gigs at the hottest UK clubs. Being hailed as Muzik Magazine‘s “DJ of the Year” in 1998 only further cemented his legitimacy as one of clubland’s elite. Now between releasing a mix CD every week and playing everywhere from Tokyo to Toronto, he still manages a residency back at good ol’ dad’s club. Sure, some guys have all the luck, but the Tall One has certainly earned his world-class status in spite of his birthright. Watch him earn it again this Friday.
