I caught MC Router a while back at Club Dada for a much-hyped “nerdcore” show, which I had been anticipating with sweaty pits and baited breath, only to be disappointed. It wasn’t Router herself; it was the company she keeps. Fort Worth’s Router, who was recently profiled in the Fort Worth Weekly, is the queen of the Cowtown nerdcore set, a self-invented, tattooed rapstress who is a transfixing figure on any stage. But, ugh, those noise-experiment dudes she works with! Fortunately, Router opens this show for Beauxregard, who just keep getting better and better, charming the hot pants off lovers of smart, space-y rock, replete with acoustic guitars and chiming keys and Bowie-esque vocals. They are the furthest from attitude-drenched anti-musicians as they come, and in this case, that’s a good thing.
