You know it. You love it. You own every special edition DVD, action figure and promo poster ever released. And, for a brief while, you pissed off every McDonald’s employee you saw with your new-fangled ordering style. Before John Travolta bought a bunch of jets in the name of Scientology and Uma Thurman learned how to fight, there was Pulp Fiction. For a movie that debuted more than 10 years ago, it has serious staying power and will always hold a special place in the (black) heart of anyone who ever saw it. Quentin Tarantino gave us all a good look at a world of drugs, thugs and thieves—making it look oddly appealing if not at least a little amusing. Aside from the occasional uncomfortable moments (bless you, Bruce Willis), audience members’ eyes are glued to the screen from start to finish, and everyone can truly agree that Samuel L. Jackson is one “bad motherfucker.” Put the DVDs away this weekend and see it again on the big screen at the Inwood Theatre’s Midnight Madness this Friday and Saturday—you can join me as I hide in the bathroom when the gimp scene starts.
