You might say Millie Dillmont was looking for love in all the right places: jazz clubs, speakeasies and the Great White Way in Manhattan circa 1922. But what this naïve Midwestern maiden really wanted was a modern marriage. Well, good luck with that. A spirited musical based on the 1967 Oscar-winning movie of the same name, Thoroughly Modern Millie won six Tony Awards in 2002, including Best Musical. It’s a madcap dash through the New York of the ’20s, filled with flappers in fabulous costumes, dashing leading men and an evil dragon-lady villainess. They belt out two songs from the film, four standards from the period and nine new songs by Jeanine Tesori and Dick Scanlan (who also wrote the book with Richard Morris). The singing, dancing, mooning and spooning extravaganza is proof that Broadway doesn’t make ’em like this anymore. It’s a great play for the whole family. Hurry, it’s at The Eisemann Center for Performing Arts Theater in Richardson for five performances only. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $42.50 to $52.50 online. Call 972-744-4650 or visit www.theaterleague.org.
Fri., Jan. 27, 8 p.m.; Sat., Jan. 28, 2 & 8 p.m.; Sun., Jan. 29, 2 & 7 p.m.
