What’s the difference between good porn and bad porn? Is it lighting? Is it sound editing? Is it a great set of…actors? Sure, all of those things come into play, but ultimately the difference, in my opinion, between good porn and bad porn is your ability to see the porn itself. Countless pop culture references hark back to one’s junior high days, when the porn channels on cable were scrambled and we had to crane our necks and stretch our imaginations to understand what was going on behind those wavy lines. That, my friends, is bad porn. And if you’re into bad porn, then you should really enjoy Plush’s latest art exhibit, Grrlzztuff, which features the work of Austinite Whitney Lee, who creates latch-hook rugs based on soft-core porn. You know latch-hook rugs. They’re kind of shaggy and usually have butterflies or apples or some such on them—not, as in Lee’s case, fuzzy images of large-breasted women in the throes of passion. Lee just loves her some rug. Hmm. Also featured are Donna Huanca and Breanne Trammell, who use stitching techniques in their art as well. The show opens Saturday with a reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and runs through April 18 at Plush, 1222 Commerce Street, Suite 403. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Call 214-498-5423.
Sat., March 18, 6-9 p.m.; Saturdays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: March 18. Continues through April 18
