Here’s the great thing about psychedelic freakout parties: Coordination is irrelevant. Do you think Roky Erickson oozes seduction when he’s on the dance floor? I promise you, he does not. The Sonics? There’s a reason they perform with minimal choreography. The Zombies? Granted, they were in their 60s when I saw them, but they sure as shit weren’t doing the hustle. Here’s what’s important: fuzzed-out bass, full throttle synth or Farfisa and a whole lotta heart. The only part of you that needs to expand and contract at Slip Inside This House, tonight’s psychedelic freakout party at Texas Theatre, is your mind, man. You’ll have assistance in this effort by DJs Gabe, Travis and Fred who have pledged on a stack of discarded issues of Rave to lace your third eye with pure white light. They’ll do it by digging deep in the wax stacks for the best offerings from music’s grittiest stint, the psychedelic era. To assist in disorientation through immersion, there will be experimental film projection on the lobby’s walls and booze for sale at the bar. The party starts at 9 p.m. Saturday at 231 W. Jefferson Blvd., and there’s no cover. Visit thetexastheatre.com.
