In 1989, President George H. W. Bush managed to unite Republicans and Democrats under one banner on one of the most divisive issues of the day: tap-dancing. Rivals John Conyers Jr. (D-MI) and Alfonso D’Amato (R-NY) put aside their differences in joint resolutions honoring tap-dancing, which Bush signed into law on November 7, 1989, declaring May 25 National Tap Dance Day. This year, Arts Fifth Avenue’s group tap-dance with live music will be a poignant reminder of the bipartisan efforts of our leaders. The celebration starts at 8 p.m. at 1628 5th Ave. in Fort Worth. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. Call 817-923-9500.
