When I first read the words “Rick Springfield Eddie Money Loverboy Scandal” (with no punctuation, as if Christopher Walken had written it!) I thought I was about to discover the pinnacle in creepy rock-and-roll debauchery. What sort of “loverboy scandal” could Springfield and Money have been caught up in? I wasn’t even sure I wanted to know. But of course it’s just the lineup for yet another mega-tour featuring ’80s pop stars looking to relive their moments of glory. That seems to be what summertime is for: throwback nostalgia concerts. These aren’t artists who have sustained a 20-year career in music. Rather, they came and went 20 years ago, and now they’re back waving a “Hey, remember me?!” flag. The good news is it’s the opportunity of a lifetime for those of you who couldn’t get enough of “Hot Girls in Love” but were too young to go to a concert in 1985. The bad news is, you’re totally old, dude.
