Rottweilers have a nasty reputation. When the most famous dog in the breed is Snot from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, there is probably a publicity problem, but they aren’t as bad as their stereotype may lead you to believe. The dogs were originally bred as faithful World War I police dogs that assisted in the capture of hundreds of criminals throughout Europe. It was actually much later that Americans began breeding them to have aggressive and angry temperaments. If that piece of trivia catches you by surprise and you feel the need to repent for poking the neighbor’s dog with a stick, then Southern States Rescued Rottweilers Inc. has the perfect opportunity for your indignity. Rolling for Rottweiler Rescue is a fund-raising event that will raise money for sheltered Rottweiler care, but even if supporting dogs isn’t your thing, you should go anyway, as there will be bowling. The event will be held at AMF Richardson Lanes, 2101 N. Central Expressway, and will offer three games of bowling, a raffle and a silent auction. The games begin at 3 p.m. Saturday and tickets are $45 at the door. Call 972-231-2695 or visit ssrr.org.
