Adrian Belew

may not be a household name—at least my mom doesn’t recognize it, and she’s my touchstone for what America is or isn’t hip to. But, like my mom, you might be a huge fan of Belew’s work. The 30-year rock veteran has been prog-rocking with King Crimson since 1981 and has toured and recorded with Frank Zappa, David Bowie, The Talking Heads, Paul Simon and Laurie Anderson. Belew’s eclectic style and virtuoso skills have earned him the title of “sonic alchemist,” and he’s well-respected among his peers as a valuable source of proficiency and quirk. And he’s nothing if not busy; in addition to his current tour, Belew has released three solo albums in the past two years (“Beat Box Guitar” from 2005’s Side One was nominated for a Grammy). He also continues to collaborate on other projects, including the Ben Folds-produced William Shatner album Has Been. And lurking in his future timetable is yet another King Crimson reunion. Co-founder Robert Fripp once said, “King Crimson exists when King Crimson needs to exist.” Dude, my mom is totally there! The Adrian Belew Power Trio performs at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Granada Theater, 3524 Greenville Ave. Tickets are $18 (general admission) or $25 to $30 (reserved seats). Call 214-824-9933 or visit granada-theater.com.
Wed., Nov. 1, 8 p.m.
