Remember SAT analogies? They were always the fun part of the test for me, like the testmaker had suddenly become that cool, laid-back substitute that ended up hooking up with some senior and getting fired—”Hey kids, let’s give the math a rest already. I’m gonna give it to ya straight. I’ve got a mean hangover, and all these numbers aren’t helping. How ’bout a word game instead?” Judging from what we’ve seen, Pale Analogies has nothing to do with this, but the new exhibit at Art Prostitute is just as cool as your favorite sub, if not cooler. It features the work of several Californian artists, including Evah Fan, Zachary Rossman, Brooks Salzwedel, Paul Urich, Marci Washington and Brendan Monroe, whose paintings look like shit. Let’s be clear: I mean this in the best possible way. Monroe’s lovely paintings literally look like droppings come to life, contemplating their inevitable demise as they spin into the porcelain abyss. If you’ve ever wanted to see a turd meditate, this is the art show for you. Catch Pale Analogies through March 5 at Art Prostitute, 2919-C Commerce St. Gallery hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Call 214-760-7170 or visit artprostitute.com.

Tuesdays-Saturdays, 12-6 p.m. Starts: Jan. 27. Continues through March 5
