At times it seems the Dallas Observer‘s own Matt Pulle has seen every gangster flick ever made. If it’s got a De Niro or a Pacino (or even a Liotta or a Pesci) in it, he’s seen it at least three times, if not more. I think he even saw 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag; might have even seen it at the theater on opening night. Unfortunately, even Matt hasn’t seen 1962’s Mafioso, and he’s my go-to guy when it comes to the wiseguy genre. According to IMDB.com, the film follows an Italian auto executive and his family on a vacation to his native Sicily, where he attempts to change his brood’s negative perception of the island and its people. Fittingly, the movie is also in Italian, which means Mr. Pulle will probably never get to watch it on TNT. If not for those pesky subtitles, the newly re-released film would surely fit TNT standards, however—Mafioso was produced by the great Dino De Laurentiis, the man behind basic cable classics such as U-571, Orca and Assassins. See it on the big screen 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St. Admission is $7.50.
