I have a confession to make. I’ve lived in Dallas on and off for almost 20 years and, though I’ve been going to the State Fair every fall for a few years now, I’ve seen little beyond the midway and the car show. I know I’m a bad person because of this. Any self-respecting Texan probably checks out all of the expos and shows every year. They could probably tell you about Big Tex and the Texas Star, while all I could tell you is where to get cheese curds and 4-ticket beers. I think it’s time for a much-needed history lesson, courtesy of A Fair to Remember, a documentary chronicling the Fair’s history from its beginnings in 1886 to today. Featuring animation by Janimation, music by Carl Finch and Brave Combo and narration by Barry Corbin (with his signature Texas drawl), A Fair to Remember proudly tells us why we have the largest and longest-running fair in the country. The benefit premiere starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, with additional showings on Saturday and Sunday at the Hall of State at Fair Park, 3939 Grand Ave. Admission is $25 for the premiere (including reception and Q&A) and free on the weekend.
