Oil paints, charcoal and watercolors were heaven to me in my elementary art class. The fact that the room was away from campus felt more like exile than curriculum, giving it an aura of taboo—as if art wasn’t really education but a secret my school had been hiding from all others in the district. Each Wednesday, I became transformed into a mad artiste, doling out crayon masterpieces and glazed ashtrays of legendary proportions. That is, until the bell rang and lunch break followed. Speaking of art (weren’t we?) 41 Dallas artists will be featured in Funny Stories and Absurdity, an exhibit of narrative art and writing at the Bath House Cultural Center, 521 E. Lawther Drive.
