Was Frida Kahlo the original Cindy Sherman? The Mexican artist’s self-portraits were certainly ahead of their time, and painted Kahlo as a rebel, a lover, a documentarian and a woman in tune with the natural world. As she once famously said, “I was born a bitch. I was born a painter.” As a tribute to the artist, and an early Cinco de Mayo celebration, East Dallas’ Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico presents Frida at the Winspear Opera House (2403 Flora St.). All the young ballet companies of ANMBF will be participating in full traditional dress.
