Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day. I imagine that’s what the employees of the Texas Discovery Gardens will be chanting during Outdoor Fun Day this Saturday. All this precipitation is probably both a blessing and a curse to the horticultural haven. Despite astounding greenery, it wouldn’t be so fun, well, on the inside, unless they found some creative alternatives to lawn games being promised outdoors. A day of croquet, bocce ball and kiddie golf would be tough to pull off inside after all, especially since they’re all things mama told me never to do in the house. And even if it doesn’t rain, the humidity will get you sticking to your clothes. You might as well just make the trip out anyway and partake in the frogs, fun and festivities. Optimism always pays off, as will an umbrella and antiperspirant. Personally, my highlight will be the Dallas Croquet Club demonstrating basics of the lawn game. Since I suck at golf, croquet is the next best thing. Profound interest will wash over me as they discuss game strategy, but I’ll try not to snicker as they explain boobies. Tee-hee…I wrote “boobies.” Outdoor Fun Day starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Texas Discovery Gardens in Fair Park, 3601 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Call 214-428-7476 or visit texasdiscoverygardens.org for more information.
