I saw The Music Man in high school. I remember it having one of the most earworm-y soundtracks of anything I’d ever heard. “Ya Got Trouble,” “76 Trombones,” “Shipoopi,” “Marian the Librarian,” “Pick a Little, Talk a Little/Goodnight, Ladies,” “Gary, Indiana” and “Till There Was You” were permanently embedded in my gray matter for a long…well, still. But the one stand-out, the one that presides over all those other songs is “Wells Fargo Wagon.” Its sense of anticipation and community really made an impact, I guess—that, or it was the inclusion of characters that I don’t remember ever appearing again in the production, for memorable lines such as “I hope I get my raisins from Fresno,” “It could be curtains!” and, my personal favorite, “Or a double boiler!” (You know, that lady just belts it out with all the umph she can muster. Gotta make stage time count.) Ol’ con man Harold Hill tries to pull a solid over on River City…and Addison, as WaterTower Theatre and the Dallas Wind Symphony hit the stage Friday and Saturday in Addison Circle Park, 15650 Addison Road.
