Oil and Cotton (837 W. 7th St.) has earned a reputation as one of the coolest craft shops around. This is partly because of its class schedule, which varies to complement any burgeoning artist’s desired aesthetic. Some of its coolest programs are the shop’s kids’ summer camp offerings, like this week’s course in electronics in art. Kids ages 10 to 18 can enroll in a five-day beginner class that teaches how to use robotics and circuitry to create interactive art pieces that can walk and talk. Not like C3PO walking and talking, but still: movement and sound. Other projects include drawing robots, theramins, a project with an old-school radio, and using conductive ink to draw circuits. Not really sure how that last one works, but it’s probably awesome. The class costs $200 and will be taught by Brittany Ransom, an artist and educator with experience in the electronic arts.
