We sure do love our arts around here, especially ones with Texas ties. That’s why we’re uber-thrilled about TexFest, a one-day film festival highlighting all things Lone Star. Presented by the USA Film Festival and the Texas Association of Film & Tape Professionals, TexFest offers three programs of Texas-made feature-length films and shorts honoring Irma P. Hall, Gail Cronauer and Juli Erickson. Slated for the evening are M. Legend Brown’s Hiding in Plain Sight; a shorts showcase that includes First Love Always Leaves Its Mark, Quiet, Sparrow, Blue and Jasper; and a Jon Keeyes/Mathew Topkins double feature of Nightmare Box and The Mechanical Grave, a short horror thriller that has become quite the hit on the steampunk circuit. This Thursday TexFest takes over the Angelika Film Center, 5321 Mockingbird Lane, with screenings beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday. Tickets for each program are $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Call 214-821-6300 or visit usafilmfestival.com for complete program information.
