The circus has always been a place of mixed emotions. Of course you’re relieved when the tightrope walker makes it across safely, but deep down you’re wondering what it would be like if he fell. You’re impressed that the lion tamer has so much control over her animals and at the same time imagining if they’re going to maul her. The circus was a place where you could indulge in some more grown-up fantasy, and what better way to recapture that fantasy than by bringing the circus to the burlesque? Viva Dallas Burlesque brings Cirque du Burlesque, a three-ring romp that explores the sexier sides of aerial performance and sideshow acts. Featuring Pepper Leopard, Vivienne Vermuth and Nashville’s Freya West and Shan de Leers, the show starts at 9 p.m. (doors open at 8) at Lakewood Theater, 1825 Abrams Road, with tickets going for $20.
