The things that make a house a home include love, warmth and surroundings that give you comfort. You don’t technically need anything more than a roof over your head — but small touches that make your space cozy and calm can be the difference between a place that’s merely an address and one that’s all yours. Dwell With Dignity, the Observer’s Best of Dallas winner for Best Charity in 2013, works hard to put that concept into action, amassing donated pieces of furniture and home accents from showrooms and designers and using them to turn apartments for struggling families into comfortable, appealing spaces. Much of their funding comes from offering the public the same chance to brighten up their living spaces during the twice-annual Thrift Studio Pop-Up Store, which you can preview during a party from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at 1250 Slocum St. in the Design District. You’ll get first dibs on major bargains at this professionally curated, showroom-style shopping event while you mingle with Honorary Chair Jan Showers, nosh on bites, sip on avocado pineapple margaritas and jam with DJ Jennifer Miller. Tickets are $125 and may be purchased at thriftstudio.com/preview-tickets.
