Spike Lee‘s movies have always been a hit or miss with me. His 1989 film Do the Right Thing really smacks of his gritty and independent style of filmmaking that effectively illustrated the racial tension of the period, whereas Inside Man, though it was captivating to the end, just had that familiar formulaic Hollywood feel. But at 8 p.m. Thursday, you’ll get the chance to hear the man himself talk about the work he’s done over the course of his career and probably prove my opinions wrong. Stretching from 1989 to his most recent project If God is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise, Lee is sure to have plenty of insight into the craft and industry he’s known for more than 20 years. Lee is speaking in the Winspear Hall at the University of North Texas’ Murchison Performing Arts Center between North Texas Boulevard and I-35E. Lee is only talking for an hour and Winspear Hall holds more than a thousand people, so do the right thing and get there early to grab a seat up close. Tickets are available now and are $30 for general public; $15 for seniors, non-UNT students and UNT faculty, staff and Alumni Association; and free for UNT students with ID.
