According to my admittedly Looney Toons-influenced impression of how dog racing works, greyhounds chase a mechanical rabbit around a track. I don’t have much more personal experience with human races than I do with dog races, but as far as I know they don’t use a comparable incentive for the human racers. They should–you could get me to run a marathon if I were chasing a keg of good beer. Rahr & Sons Brewing Company has this figured out, as its inaugural Oktoberfest 5K Saturday ends with a party at the brewery (701 Galveston Ave. in Fort Worth), with live music, food and, of course, free beer available only to participants. No wonder founder Fritz Rahr expects as many as 1,000 to run, walk or crawl. Sign-up begins at 8 a.m. and the run starts at 9 a.m. Entry fee of $35 benefits Trinity Habitat For Humanity.
