Comedy may look like it’s all fun and games but it’s actually a very competitive affair. Comics are constantly competing for stage time and the love and affection of a crowd who can’t come up with those nuggets of humor on their own. The competition really heats up toward the end of the year when the Addison Improv holds its annual Funniest Comic in Texas battle, a multi-match beatdown ending in the crowning of a new Lone Star funnyman or -woman. This year’s competition will have just four shows of 25 finalists every Tuesday at the Addison Improv. After whittling down the talent pool to just the funniest names on the marquee, a winner will be crowned at a special finale show on Sunday, December 15. That lucky sucker will score a cash prize, a special showcase at the club and a year’s worth of bragging rights in comedy green rooms across the state.
