If you happened into Ro2 Gallery’s downtown space in late 2013, you might have caught One Day, an installation of totem-like structures fabricated from discarded Starbucks waste. If you missed Val Curry and Robert Reedy’s exploration of consumer culture, you have another chance to take it in during Objective Strategies, a group show emphasizing time-based three-dimensional media, opening Friday at El Centro College’s Art Gallery (801 Main St.). The six-artist show unites an interesting talent pool. In addition to Curry and Reedy’s trash-to-treasure stackings, you’ll see new exercises in impermanence, told through fruit, from Jeff Gibbons, a large-scale sculpture by Ryder Richards and experimental video- or film-based work by Michael Morris, Nicky Tavares and Monica Ugartechea. Check out Objective Strategies Monday through Friday until February 21. The opening reception runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and is your only chance to see Cambodian immigrant and current U.S. military member Tol Hay perform action 9 / wrestle, a new piece of performance art created and directed by Alison Starr.
