Museums are a very good thing during the Christmas holidays. Everyone on the roads loses their mind, making even a trip to Chick-Fil-A an epic battle to survive red-light running, intersection blocking and bumper riding all in the name of retail spending. Just sitting at home to watch TV requires that you gird yourself for the onslaught of malevolent holiday jewelry ads. There are few refuges from the madness. Bars are good. Very good. And museums are a close second. Because as you walk into a museum, you are sealed off from the outside world in a place that’s quiet, cool, airy and stimulating in all the right ways. The Modern Museum of Fort Worth, 3200 Darnell St., is a particularly nice oasis. Its stark architecture, seamless reflecting pool and cavernous galleries give you room to breathe and a place to roam. Hide out at the Modern and take in the twisty, colorful and almost psychedelic pieces by contemporary artist Erik Parker, who will be hosting a gallery tour of his work at 1 p.m. Sunday. The FOCUS exhibition and tour are included with admission, which is $10 for adults, $4 for seniors and students with identification, free for children 12 and under and free for Modern members. FOCUS: Erik Parker runs through February 6. The Modern is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays and until 8 p.m. on Fridays. Visit themodern.org for more info.
