While the Mavs already have an impressive 94-80 win against the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers under their belts, knocking off the Spurs is just as important because San Antonio’s Big Three (Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili) have managed three championships of their own in seven seasons together. One week after beginning a four-game road trip in San Antonio, Dallas comes home to face the Spurs for a second time, and both teams feature new faces. While San Antonio added athletic rookie DeJuan Blair and veterans Richard Jefferson and Antonio McDyess, the Mavs brought in Shawn Marion, Tim Thomas and Drew Gooden. Blair, a kid Dallas could have drafted instead of French point guard Rodrigue Beaubois (whoopsie), could turn out to be something special–let’s hope his coming-out party isn’t against the Mavs. What we do hope for is a repeat of Halloween night when Ginobili swatted down a bat out of the air with his bare hand.
