It was probably inevitable that someone would create a musical based on the works of Queen. The ’70s band’s flamboyant music has a theatrical bent that seems tailor made for conversion to a big, bombastic rock opera, and that’s what you get with We Will Rock You, the musical with book by Ben Elton coming to the Music Hall at Fair Park (909 1st Ave.). It’s about a group of rebellious Bohemian kids who want to rock to their own tunes in a future world called iPlanet, a place of corporate conformity where Ga Ga Kids are fed a bland stew of computer-generated music. Enter Galileo, a young rebel who only wants “to break free,” find some mysterious musical instruments from a long-vanished era and work in assorted other titles from Queen songs in a show one critic wrote had “a plot similar to a Yes concept album.” But someone likes it — the show’s been playing at its London theater home for 12 years. See why as Dallas Summer Musicals brings We Will Rock You’s touring version to Dallas Tuesday through March 16. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m., with 1:30 p.m. matinees weekends and on March 13. Tickets start at $25.25 and are available at TicketMaster.
