Aside from the immortal scene in Footloose where Kevin Bacon furiously punch-dances his way through an abandoned warehouse, the only time when you’ll likely use the phrase “dance fighting” is regarding the martial art of Capoeira. And like Bacon’s dance, Capoeira is as beautiful as it is deadly. Originating in Brazil, with its roots in Africa, the martial art utilizes acrobatic flips, kicks and rolls to create a mesmerizing display of force. On Saturday, Dallas Capoeira on Preston will host its first free workshop since the studio opened its doors. This event will feature Professor Furacao, a character in the Capoeira Fighter video game, giving separate introductions to kids and adults. Free food and door prizes will be available as well. As spots are limited, advance registration is encouraged. For more information visit capdallas.com. And you can play the kick-ass Capoeira Fighter for free online at spiritonin.com/capoeirafighter.
