Admit it. Your curiosity got the best of you last year, and you found yourself curled up with a really bad book, a book so very bad that it made Twilight look like a Steinbeck novel in comparison. You totally enjoyed 50 Shades of Grey and all of its sequels. But you’re so not willing to fess up to your penchant for numbing prose and expensive paddles — and the folks behind Spank! The 50 Shades Parody know it. They’re geniuses, really, producing a touring show that pokes fun at the bondage-themed cultural juggernaut and luring in the girls-night-out-crowd in spades. Why? Because sooo many fans take the whole “if I make fun of it enough, people will think I totally hate it” approach. So, layer on your deadpan and check out the show — not officially sanctioned by the 50 Shades empire, but the fact that it’s taboo makes it more exciting, no? The characters are re-imagined, but still super familiar, and the adults-only antics are interspersed with actual intended humor. Laugh until you need your safe word during performances of Spank! at Bass Performance Hall, 525 Commerce St., Wednesday through May 25. Showtimes vary. See tickets.basshall.com for details and to purchase tickets priced between $49.50 to $60.50.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m. Starts: May 22. Continues through May 25, 2014
