Typically, seeing the word “BUGS” in all capital letters would be a warning to us vertebrates that it is time to turn around, speed up and take cover. That’s what all-caps is for: to warn you that something’s about to go down, and it is your responsibility as a human who doesn’t want to win a Darwin Award to take appropriate protective measures. So if the BUGS exhibit at the Heard Museum causes you a little alarm, just know that you’re a reasonable person. Thankfully at the Heard’s BUGS, more than 25 species of creepy-crawlies will be kept at a safe distance so that spine-havers of all ages can get a good look without a good nibble. BUGS features giant beetles, cockroaches and massive stick insects staged in “Mayan ruins,” in case you also want to get freaked out by 2012 while you’re at it. BUGS runs through May 15, 2011 at the Heard, 1 Nature Place in McKinney, open Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Visit heardmuseum.org.
