To the list of things Erykah Badu, Stephen Hawking and Amy Tan have in common, we can add this: they’re all portrait subjects in photographer Stewart Cohen’s book Identity: A Photographic Meditation From the Inside Out. For this collection of expertly lit portraits, Cohen traveled the world tracking down a grab bag of subjects who all, for one reason or another, fascinated him. From each he collected a hand-written answer to the same question: What makes you unique? Not all of us are as fascinating as fork-tongued, tattoo-faced Erik “The Lizardman” Sprague, or Bob Schneider–so Cohen’s narrowed it down to his top 50. Meet the artist in person–and learn why Bob Schneider’s so special–at Cohen’s reception and book signing from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery, 1202 Dragon St. Call 214-969-1852 or visit pdnbgallery.com for more info.
Thu., April 8, 6-8 p.m.; Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: April 8. Continues through April 14, 2010
