In Texas, guns are everywhere. They’re a part of the history as much as the folklore and it seems like a new gun show’s popping up somewhere around town each month. Regardless of your stance on gun laws, there is a gun and knife show you shouldn’t miss. If these things make you nervous, don’t worry-there is almost no chance of an accidental discharge at this event and we don’t suspect there will be any of those orange hunting-safety vests in sight, either. We are also confident, but cannot guarantee, that any adornment of camouflage will be tastefully displayed at this art exhibit designed to explore our culture’s fascination with guns, knives and the implications of their presence within our society. So, whether you’re an anachronistic, gun-wielding-cowboy amiss in the city or a suburbanite who breaks out the boots for special occasions, you’ll enjoy this artistic exploration. The Gun and Knife Show runs through June 4 at the CentralTrak Gallery, 800 Exposition St. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. The exhibition is free. Call 214-824-9302 or visit utdallas.edu/centraltrak for more information.
Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: April 30. Continues through June 4, 2011
