Building Character is usually a euphemism for getting crapped on by life, like when you didn’t get that kick-ass job or when you got dumped on your birthday. This time, however, it’s a group exhibition of character-driven work over at the 4th Wall Gallery. These three urban contemporary artists really bring the talent: C. Kirk’s mixed media comic-style projects are bewitching; he sometimes incorporates an unexpected element of humor to communicate deeper, darker meanings. Jeru Gabriel juxtaposes bright and colorful abstract images with striking portraits, and Hatziel Flores’ love for art started with a spray can and has developed into an urban-influenced statement. Come see the goods for yourself 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays though Saturdays through April 3 at the 4th Wall Gallery, 2925 Fairmount St. For more information, call 214-740-9400 or visit the4thwallgallery.net.
Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: March 5. Continues through April 3, 2010
