To some people, a Monte Cristo sandwich doesn’t sound so great. It’s a deep-fried sandwich, served with turkey and sweet jelly and a side of cream. Not, it would seem, a match made in heaven. And yet the Monte Cristo is very delicious. And so we challenge you to think of comedian Eddie Izzard as a Monte Cristo sandwich. He’s English, a transvestite, a history buff and an avid marathoner. Not exactly traits one would think of and conclude: hilarious comedian! But indeed, that is precisely what Eddie Izzard is. If he’s not the funniest human alive, he is certainly in the top tier, combining an irreverent Pythonesque outlook with surrealistic takes on history, sex, politics and whatever else pops into his surprisingly active brain. And when we say “whatever else” we really mean for you to be prepared for literally anything–Izzard’s skill with a non sequitur is unparalleled. And the word on the street is that he’s considering running for political office in the United Kingdom, so we suggest getting your tickets to his upcoming Dallas show while he’s still entertaining civilian audiences instead of cracking jokes in Parliament. Izzard’s at the American Airlines Center, 2500 Victory Ave., at 8 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $45 to $75. Visit AmericanAirlinesCenter.com
Thu., Jan. 21, 8 p.m., 2010
