The Chinese zodiac may indicate that 2014 is the Year of the Horse, but at the Wyly Theatre it’s opening night for Year of the Rooster. Upstart Production’s performance of this play about cockfighting kicks off a six-part series dubbed the Elevator Project. The project invites small, local companies to use the black box theater and rehearsal space at the Wyly for one show of their season each. Upstart’s offering tells the story of a disgruntled McDonald’s employee, and a prize rooster named Odysseus Rex. Show up for a story that promises to be serious, comical and thrilling in Greek proportions —and to watch an adult human play the part of a rooster. 8pm. Individual tickets available for $20 or subscribe to all six shows for $100. More info at ticketdfw.com.
