If Broadway is The Great White Way, you might call Turtle Creek The Great Rainbow Way this month, as theater group Uptown Players has returned to the Kalita Humphreys Theatre (3636 Turtle Creek Blvd) with its 4th annual Dallas Pride Performing Arts Festival. The nine-day festival features plays, a concert performance and a cabaret act, all focusing on themes of gay pride and acceptance. A musical rendition of The Last Session, a story about a pop star battling AIDS, is the first to command the spotlight at 8 p.m. Friday. Both The Last Session, and Savage Love Live, which closes the festival on September 20, will be presented on the Kalita Humphreys Theatre Stage, whereas the other performances will occupy the smaller Frank’s Place stage. Savage Love Live, an evening with sex advice columnist and “It Gets Better” creator, Dan Savage, is sure to be salacious and thought-provoking —a don’t miss.
