Adam Richman, host of Man Vs. Food on the Travel Channel, makes a living going from city to city to take on eating challenges. “Challenges?” you may ask. “You mean challenges like trying to get healthy food providers into blighted areas to supplement the fast-food and convenience stores that are often the only source of nutrition for the poorest among us? Challenges like getting a nation with an overabundance to effectively share its resources with developing countries that don’t always have a reliable food supply?” No, dumbass. I mean challenges like trying to eat an entire three-and-a-half-pound cinnamon roll, a pizza the size of a coffee table or extremely hot spicy tuna rolls. In other words, he symbolizes everything wrong with the grotesquely consumerist America and its descent into an Idiocracy future of decadent man-children. And that’s why I love him. After my own mixed results in eating contests–one corndog championship and one embarrassing, televised hot-wing failure–I find him that much more of an inspiration. He’s enthusiastic about every challenge, has an impressive winning record and is graceful in his rare defeats. This American hero will share his story, give a cooking demo and answer questions at the House of Blues at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets are $15 to $45. Call 214-978-BLUE or visit hob.com.
